WCA-Digitization -- Wikimedia Chapters Association expert pool for digitization

About WCA-Digitization

The project wants to achieve the following:

- Create and manage a list of contacts with experts in digitization.

- Promote the exchange of know-how among Wikimedia activists and other interested parties.
Document past experience in past and current digitization projects.

- Establish a communication platform as a container of digitization expertise (Wiki/Blog and mailing list).

- Develop and compile documentation, manuals, check lists and create a flexible digitization project kit.

- Provide use cases for interested parties to guide GLAM organizations in such projects.

- Establish a manual of technical guide lines on the subject of file formats, handling of large volumes, metadata, work flows, quality assurance, etc.

- Organize partner networks e.g. for access to special scanning, plotting or printing equipment.

- Offer novice-level and expert work shops on request about digitization issues.

- Enter strategic cooperations, document technical and legal requirements (e.g. long-term preservation or national heritage protection).

- Offer consulting and education for concrete projects within the limits of the available resources.
Dissemination to the public through reports and articles.

The project is the Swiss contribution to a common German language expert pool to support challending GLAM projects in professional digitization in DE/AT/CH/LI.
